Best to do in Vietri sul mare: Enjoy its Beaches!
Vietri sul mare offers three comfortable and beautiful beaches. Because of its proximity to the port of Salerno you can have a panorama of large ships, and even some days (few) with water not as clear as in other areas of the coast.
1.- Marina di Vietri beach
The Marina di Vietri beach, is in the “low” zone of the city, and is presented as a wide beach with several private establishments. There is a free zone (free), where you can bathe and place your umbrella and chairs; and a much larger area dedicated to the private beach. Prices may vary, but it usually costs around € 15 a day. The main advantage is the services such as bar, bathroom, showers, music, etc. Remember to book in advance, the high season usually ends very fast !.
2.- La Bahia Beach
It is a little further south of Vietri sul mare, towards Salerno. It is a wide beach with sand, and is usually quieter than the other beaches of the Amalfi Coast. Obviously in high season it is very visited. They can be reached comfortably by car or bus from the center of Vietri sul mare.
3.- La Crestarella Beach
A beautiful beach surrounded by the Towers (built ariund 1500). It is a very characteristic beach, but much smaller than the previous ones. There is a free public area and a private one. Recommended if you like beaches with a view and quite “private”.
Private Lido prices usually vary from € 36 to € 14 depending on the day of the week and according to the distance to the sea (the first row costs more than the second, and the third, etc). The reservation costs € 10, and you have to call ahead. Children after 3 years pay 50% without a chair !. As you can see the prices are high, but it is something general of the entire Amalfi Coast, mainly because there are few places available and many people wanting to be there !.
Typical dishes to eat in Vietri sul mare
In Vietri sul mare, as in all the Amalfi Coast, the main typical dishes to eat are based on fresh fish. I recommend the pasta “ Scialatielli ai frutti di mare ” (see photo), better if made by hand !. If you love fried fish, you can order ” Frittura mista” with local fish. Also the Frittura di Calamari e Gamberetti.
The Limoncello , although not typical of Vietri sul mare, is very famous throughout the Amalfi Coast, they do it in several hill towns. Ask for it “Artigianale”, and you will see that the taste is superior to any other !.
During the day they can take a “Granita al limón ” or a “Granita al Limoncello”. There are also ice creams with the flavors of the Costa (lemon, limoncello, orange, etc) and natural juices (especially orange!).
